Destitutes. What do you do when you encounter one?

Finding a destitute has always pulled out a few questions naturally from my insides that none of us have probably tried to address. Trying to list out what or who a destitution or a destitute respectively is should be the first task:

  • The first and most prevalent kind are the poor
  • The next kind are the sick and poor with or without anyone (be it kith and kin or an organization etc.) to take care of them
  • The last and third kind I could think of as of now are addicts both poor and rich with or without anyone to take care of them

What would anyone of us treat them like or behave if we were to ever encounter such people. I bet that, all you would be worried about in that point of time is nothing ever related to them, but is this human? is this what the world has come to? or what human beings have taught themselves to shield from? is this rational? is this something to do with evolution and the survival of the fittest? is this what society wants? is this what you want your child to do?

Think of this. If a man/woman is hurt in an accident and is critical and profusely bleeding on the road and might die, would you or would you not try to help her/him in this situation? Is this different from that of encountering a destitute who could or could not be helped?

Luckily today there is someone or the other whose old (ironically as people would term it today, as misanthropic) conscience kicks in and helps, but the day is not far when this conscience shall never come out from a more evolved person/society at some later point in time. We have a government that can't manage a population, that can't promise some descendant of a citizen at the time of independence who subscribed to equality, fairness and justice. Let me also remind you, it might not be just India alone, there maybe other countries that have this dilemma on their minds, but do they falter 90% of the times. I guess some have given this a fair consideration and hence the statistic of 90% holds.

In conclusion: Yes, the world is better doomed and I hope it was made for that, you may prefer to call it Kali Yuga, Apocalypse or whatever. Again not for a moment I would ask you to think and not ask me this question as to whether I am being too rational to be real and surviving in this world or if I am just to negative and should stay cheered up and positive and be as blind as I had better been.

Discredits: A drunken seemingly very poor, disillusioned man and also seeming hurt on the face and fallen in the First Class (note the capital 'F' and 'C' and that's what most of our mindsets are really all about, being selfish and banishing worry about others and thinking only about ones own comfort and satisfaction) compartment of a Bombay local; with his back supported on one of the walls that are generally there on either side of each bogies entrance. Worst still was that he was awake, seemed highly drunk, writhing in pain and also having a matchbox in the palm of his hand as if his fingers were hurting and he could not get himself to hold the pack in his palm and with an open pack of beedi strewn on the floor. He looked upset or was drunk or was doing something terribly wrong, 'HANGING' around in this fashion in the first class compartment I do not know. But what struck me and would and could not forget from that instance on, was the blank lost look on his face; of dejection, of emotion, of pain and/or a state of drunkenness that his eyes echoed? or was it something beyond an solution? Or is it an itching in the form of a being just lying there totally ravaged, two feet below near the two feet of mine?
